Soap Care

To get the best from your handmade soap here are a few tips and tricks.  Handmade soap is rich in naturally occurring glycerin which is a product of the reaction that turns oils in to soap.  Glycerin draws moisture to it which makes it fantastic for skincare but if you store your soap in a soap dish with no drainage it can suck up water and start to get very soft.   To ensure your soap lasts as long as it can you need a soap dish with lots of drainage or raised areas  like our soap stones to lift the soap away from the water. This will help it to dry well between uses.

Candle Care

To get the best from your candles there are a few tips to follow.  Do not trim your wick too small, half a cm is perfect as this ensures a good flame height.  To purchase one of our wick trimmers please click here. When burning your candle ensure it is set on a heat proof surface so that it does not damage furniture when it  gets hot.   Allow the candle to burn until the entire surface has melted, this will ensure your candle does not tunnel and waste wax.  Do not burn for more than 4 hours at a time and if the wick develops a mushroom blow the candle out and carefully trim the wick before relighting.   The burn times advertised are based on burning for approximately 2-3 hours at a time in a draft free room.  If you burn the candle for long periods the burn time will not be as long.
